Try it one more time

Success should be measured by the amount of energy and effort we give to a project and the amount of joy and satisfaction it creates rather than by the outcome of the project. It's the behind the scenes work that helps us to develop our character rather than the visible results of our efforts.

Great athletes, artists, musicians, writers, craftsman, scientists all put in long hours learning their skills, practicing them and then applying them with passion to their current project. They didn't wake up one morning and declare,"Today I'm going to do something unique so I'll be famous". They did what they loved to do without thinking about what others might think of their work. They didn't worry about being wrong, making a mistake, being labeled with a big "L" across their forehead indicating they're a loser. They just did what gave them joy and observed what went well and what needed to be modified the next time they did their work.

If you want to be success, it's helpful to have the same attitude as great people in all areas of life. Every "mistake" is really just an opportunity to learn what you want to do differently next time. If you truly want to be great, try as many new ways of doing things as you can think of. The more mistakes the better. Who's counting anyway?

Be gentle with yourself. Remember, without mistakes there would be no growth. Our lives are a series of moments that are all interconnected by our thoughts, our feelings, our beliefs and our actions. It's how we live in each moment that determines our success rather than what one specific "accomplishment." And, after you succeed in achieving that one big accomplishment, what are you going to do next? Life goes on!

Success has nothing to do with how fast you do something, how long it took you to accomplish it or how many people know about what you've done. It's about how you live your life. If you follow your heart, listen to your inner wisdom, are compassionate, caring and honest, make conscious choices and take responsibility for your actions, then you are a success.  It's that kind of success that stays with you for a lifetime.
