Everything starts as an idea
Today I'm creating my first blogcast and it reminded me that everything starts as an idea. As a catalyst for change (aka a success coach), I know that an idea comes before action if it's to be successful. "A vision without action is a daydream. Action without a vision is a nightmare." To believe in our ideas is to open the door to the infinite possibilities of our potential. To believe in our self is to pave the avenue of success for our ideas. Do not shoot your ideas down before you give them a chance. Yes, some or even many of them may not work out, but the ones that do bear fruit will make it all worth it. Be courageous. The best way to have a good idea is to have many ideas. Gardeners plant many seeds and cull the best ones for further propagation. They don't just plant one carrot seed and expect to grow enough carrots to feed their family. They plant many seeds, experiment with soil, try new watering techniques and are on the lookout for the first sign of life popping out of the ground. Then they us what they've learned to make sure each crop is better than the one before it. Once that's done they may decide to improve the quality and yield of another crop and continue to improve things not only for themselves but for current and future generations.
The most valuable thing in the world is not an object, but an idea. Every object you see came from an idea that somebody had and then took steps to birth. Your laptop, cell phone, Blackberry, iced latte with extra cream. Your glasses, shoes, house, car. Your Sunday newspaper, favorite TV show and that yummy burger that's making your mouth water. All these things started with an idea and somebody who took action to turn an idea into reality. Others may have had the same idea, but they often lacked the courage to move forth with it.
An object is finite, limited, and can come and go. However, a good idea contains within it the seeds of untold possibilities, including not just the idea at hand, but all the important ideas and products that may proceed as offshoots of the original one. Space travel is possible because of the discovery of electricity, the creation of computers, and the manufacturing of heat shields to name just a few. Microwave ovens and frozen dinners were created in response to a need for faster ways to get food on the dinner table. Air conditioning and heating units were the result of people having ideas about how to live more comfortably 12 months of the year.
Courageous people created the modern conveniences that we take for granted. They put up with ridicule, financial disasters, exhaustion because of the number of prototypes they had to create before they found one that worked the way they visualized it. Their creations often were not even recognized until long after they were dead. They kept taking one step after another because it gave them internal satisfaction.
You must act as a gardener for your ideas, nurturing them all, removing the ones that are not helpful, and giving all the nourishment you can to the good ones. Then one day you will look at your garden, bless God for the inspiration, and honor yourself for following through on your original vision.
You will also serve as an inspiration to others who have an idea for something new but are afraid to move forward with it. If you can succeed so can they. And then there will be more new things for people to enjoy. But, nothing happens until you take the first step. Have any ideas?
